16/10/14 Hole in One at Hankley

Congratulations to Dave Hutchison for getting a hole in one on the 7th.  This feat led to a magnificent gross level par round of 71.  Well done David, and many thanks from all there who enjoyed the wine you kindly put on the tables.

04/01/14 Geoff Fitton (President) and Stan Idell (Captain) look forward to seeing you during 2014
16/09/13 Away Tour

We were eventually 24 players playing 3 rounds of golf at Bircuit, Sept Fontaines and Chateau de la Tournette.  The weather was kind to us although we did have some rain, but this did not dampen the competitor's spirits ! The result was a very close run affair which came down to a countback on the last 9 holes of day three with Brian O'Luanaigh coming out as winner of this year's event with 102 points from David Woolmer of Malden.

Altogether a most enjoyable tour with a good hotel, good food and an excellent choice of wines,

09/09/13 The Jubilee Trophy

The Jubilee Trophy at Pine Ridge was once again fully subscribed, the weather was perfect and the course in excellent condition.  For the first time ever those scoring over 40 points outnumbered those getting 28 and under.

While we would like to think it was down to golfing prowess, it was probably had more to do with the conditions and the course running straight and long.  Dave Yabsley came third with 45 points, Richard Kennettwas second with 46 points (they must both have thought they had won), but Eddie Wheeler from Sutton Green came in with 47 points, to get his name on the trophy for the second time.

The golf was followed by an excellent lunch and we would like to thank Clive Smith for his generosityin sponsoring the day.

28/06/13 Clothing

Keith has had to return a batch of 12 shirts to the suppliers due to mistakes in the embroidery. He is temporarily out of stock of shirts in the S and L sizes.

Keith is to pass on this particular role to John Ledgard at the end of September and as John has a change of supplier in mind, John is intending to obtain new supplies as soon as possible.

24/05/13 John Thornhill Trophy

Because of snow, the date was changed to Friday 17th May, this time the weather was kind and all went well.

The Over 70's John Thornhill Tankard was played on the new course and the winner was Vic Waters with 37 points.

The John Thornhill Trophy itself was won by Mick Clark (Redhill & Reigate) with 40 points from Henry Black (Woodcote Park), 38 points and Vic third with his 37.

25/04/13 Seniors Meeting, Bramley

On a beautiful sunny and warm day, local man Phil Herbert rose to the top of a close list, taking the trophy with a worthy 37 points from John Hayward 36 (21 on back 9), Mick Clark 36 (19 back 9 & 13 back 6) and Norman Dampney 36 (19 back 9 & 9 back 6). Although Norman figured outside the top 3 he did have the double distinction of taking the Over 70's prize and getting a hole-in-one at the 178 yard 12th hole.  He will be presented with a hole-in-one tankard at the President's meeting at Effingham.

08/04/13 John Thornhill Trophy

Payment will be by cheque on the day.  If you enter and subsequently find that you cannot play then let John know, if you fail to turn up on the day and we are charged for your place you will be billed and expected to pay.

Message from the Captain

The idea of our Society having it's own website has been on the agenda for a little while now.

Thanks to Eddie Wheeler's personal contact with Sutton Green fellow member, Mike Reeve of Northwood Management Services, we are in a position to welcome all members to this new addition to our means of communication.  It has been kept pretty simple as it is an information site and certainly not one geared to extract money from you!   We hope you will find it easy to navigate and useful for reference, so no excuses now if you mislay your Year Book at any stage !!

Initially it mainly replicates the information of the 2013 Year Book.  However we also intend to report a brief summary of the results of meetings and matches as we go through the season, and perhaps provide a timely prompt for dates to apply for entry to future meetings.

So we may as well start with the John Thornhill at Walton Heath on Thursday 28th March, which opened on 1st February and closes on 6th March.  The match entry application is similarly open and this closes on the 10th April.

We will, of course, welcome constructive suggestions but we certainly do not want to overload it, so will let it run for a reasonable period to see how it goes.

Happy golfing and socialising

John Knight - Captain
